The new Children's Hospital draws attention because of its colourful façade that changes appearance depending on one's viewpoint. This is possible because its glass panels are covered in layers of foil, which reflect light in different ways. Punctuating the street façades are mesh-protected loggias that allow children to play "outside". All the patient rooms face a park-like courtyard; along the windows they have built-in benches that can be turned into beds for parents. Hallways are wide and bright, their walls are covered in wood-like panels, tall slivers of back-lit photos depict scenes from Basel and include child-scaled figurines.
