De Staart
A service centre for the Apenheul Primate Park is combined with World Wildlife House Apeldoorn and an underground auditorium. The visitors’ entrance winds past this educational building into the park. Apenheul Primate Park is an organisation dedicated to nature education and nature conservation. The organisation focuses principally on primates and their – often tropical – natural environments. This knowledge and work centre winds up the hill, along the entrance path, to the Apenheul - hence the name ('Staart' meaning 'tail'). An auditorium lies in the bowels of the earth. Work spaces behind a wooden spine to the north. Classrooms and the visitors’ reception centre with an unobstructed view of the hill to the south. Laminated wooden ribs provide sturdiness for preserved domestic wood cladding (‘plato wood’).
