Velodrom
At the time of the competition in 1992, Berlin was hoping to be selected as the host city of the 2000 Olympic Games, eventually held in Sydney. The Velodrom and nearby swimming pool were indeed realised, although in watered down versions, modified to serve as multi-functional facilities. The site, covering ten hectares, is situated in the eastern part of Berlin, where the boundaries of three city districts intersect. The Velodrom has multiple uses: cycling, athletics, tennis, sports education, horseracing, concerts, etc. It can accommodate 11420 spectators.
